    "content": "Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.53(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries regarding the state of the livestock sector in Kenya. In the Statement, the Committee should- (1) Indicate the contribution of the livestock sector to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). (2) Indicate the budgetary allocation for the sector in the current financial year indicating whether it is commensurate to its GDP contribution. (3) Inform the Senate on the actions that the Government has taken to address the budgetary challenges faced by the livestock sector. (4) State the number and estimated value of livestock that died during the last year as a result of drought, indicating any plans to facilitate the restocking of the livestock. (5) Outline measures put in place by the Government to mitigate the effects of drought on livestock and to promote and market livestock products."
