"content": "Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, there is also the issue of the urban people, who are facing starvation. As a Government, we have decided that we are going to start giving some cash vouchers, so that they can purchase food. The first 200,000 families are going to be taken care of that way, because in urban areas, it is difficult to deal with it in any other way. Meanwhile, we are also giving them some food rations. As my sister, hon. Mugo, pointed out, we have the problem of most of the food given out being carbohydrates. So, people are facing health problems associated with lack of enough vitamins. However, lactating mothers and malnourished children under the age of 5 years to the tune of about 250,000, in the ASAL areas, are being taken care of by being given food supplements – for instance Unimix. This has gone a long way in assisting those people get balanced and nutritional food. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, it will also be important for all our health facilities to be stocked with multi-vitamins. As we give the food rations, we should be able to get the health personnel to also give multi-vitamins to our people. With those remarks, I beg to move."
