"content": " Thank you, Hon. Temporary Speaker. I rise to contribute to this debate on the Presidential Address. First, I want to bring to the attention of the House that the Constitution requires the President to once a year report to Parliament the country’s achievements in certain parameters that are stipulated in the Constitution. That provision was included in the Constitution so that this House can hold the President accountable. We are not here to sing a chorus thanking and appreciating what the President said. That is none of our business as a House. We want to know from his speech whether he has achieved the issues that he is supposed to report back to the House in the last year. I listened very keenly to the President on that day because I was in the House, and I almost thought he was re-launching his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) manifesto for the second time. The entire Speech was full of promises. Those promises must come to an end. Kenyans must be told what the Government of the day has achieved in the last one year. One year is quite a long period. A lady can get a child in one year after getting married. A human being can be produced in one year through marriage. If you can produce a living human being in nine months, which is less than a year, what can you not achieve in one year? Let us be honest with Kenyans. Let us not address them as though some of them live on earth, while others live on the moon. I heard people say that we have stabilised the economy. I do not understand what the term “stabilisation” means when people are suffering, and the cost of living and food is high. What have you stabilised?
