"content": " Thank you, Hon. Temporary Speaker, for allowing me to contribute to the debate on the President’s Speech, which was delivered on Thursday, last week. I want to congratulate the President for the State of the Nation Address, which captured what the Kenya Kwanza Government has done in its first year. I am a Member of the Departmental Committee on Education. I want to congratulate the President for employing 56,750 new teachers and training 8,200 primary school teachers for junior secondary schools. This is the first time that teachers from Narok County have had an opportunity to be employed. The new rule that was adopted by the TSC at the suggestion of the Departmental Committee on Education ensured that trained teachers in Narok County were employed. The Member who said that our people do not get opportunities for employment was not truthful. Every county had an opportunity to employ teachers. The revised entry requirements for teacher trainees has seen an increase of 300 per cent in enrolment in teachers training colleges. I am a witness. Narok County had low enrolment levels at the Narok Teachers Training College, where there were more tutors than students. There are currently 20,456 teacher trainees in teacher training colleges."
