"content": "Thank you, Hon. Temporary Speaker. I thank my good friend, Hon. Daniel Wanyama, Member for Webuye West. Allow me to contribute to this noble Motion on the 1970 UNESCO Convention on the means of prohibiting and preventing the illicit import, export and transfer of ownership of cultural property. Culture connects us to the past, and it is everything to us. The only way to protect cultural artefacts is to ratify this Treaty so that it can be anchored under Article 2(6) of the Constitution. This is so that when we lay claim to anything of Kenyan origin, we can bring it back to our country. Hon. Temporary Speaker, the coronation ceremony of the King of the United Kingdom (UK) taught us a lot. They took the traditional practice of the coronation of a king and followed it to the letter. In Africa, we run away from our culture instead of emulating what is ours. We copy and adapt to what we have seen on the international stage. I believe this Motion is important. Let us ratify this Convention so that we can connect with our past. Thank you, Hon. Temporary Speaker."
