According to the Kenya Mental Health Policy 2015- 2030, the national government estimates the burden of mental illness at 25 per cent among outpatients and 40 per cent among inpatients in different health facilities, with an estimated prevalence of psychosis stated as 1 per cent of the general population. Despite substantial research being undertaken in Kenya to examine the burden of mental illness, the majority of these are region or population-specific.
