"content": " I just want to indulge the Chairperson in the spirit of the expanded definition of the term “sugarcane and sugar-producing crop”. Amendment b(ii) proposes the insertion of a new paragraph (k) which talks about: “the seizure by an inspector of books, documents and sugarcane which, in the opinion of the inspector, may afford evidence of a contravention of this Act and the doing of such other things as may appear to the inspector to be necessary for ascertaining whether compliance has been made with this Act;” We probably need to expand that definition to include “sugarcane and sugar- producing crop.” Secondly, we have also expanded the role of an inspector in the sugar industry. Therefore, the seizure should probably also include any other item, plant or machinery that is used in the sugar industry. I suggest that the amendment be moved in an amended form to capture the new arrangements that we have in the books."
