Temporary Speaker, with respect to Clause 6, the import of the amendment is to increase representation of sugar millers, taking into consideration the representation of private and public companies on the board. Further, it also aligns the appointment of the chairperson in line with the Mwongozo Code. On the other hand, the importance of recommitting Clause 14 is to delete the phrase ‘Salaries and Remuneration Commission’, so that the Public Service Commission must consult the SRC. The importance of this amendment is for the recruitment of the CEO to be a competitive and transparent process that will be overseen by the Public Service Commission and not necessarily the SRC. On Clause 34, the recommitted part has to do with the proportionate share of the Sugar Development Levy. In this case, the proportion allocated to the board becomes 10 per cent and the proportion allocated to the development and improvement of infrastructure becomes 15 per cent."
