"content": "The world over, a society is measured by how it takes care of its elderly citizens. Therefore, as a country, we need to prioritise the needs of the elderly persons of this country and provide budgetary allocations to deliver such services. It is against this backdrop that the Geriatric Bill 2022 was developed with a primary objective of operationalising Article 57 of the Constitution, through the establishment of the National Council for the Elderly. Hon. Deputy Speaker, we are all going to be subjects and victims of age. Therefore, it is important that we handle this issue with a lot of concern because we are either elderly, becoming elderly or we have relatives who are elderly. Those are people who require their issues to be taken care of through this House."
