"content": " Hon. Temporary Speaker, I wish to support this Bill. I want to thank the Member for Githunguri for coming up with this Bill, and thinking about our elderly people. Article 57 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 provides that the State shall take measures to ensure that the rights of older people are safeguarded. This is with respect to the fact that older people are vulnerable in many ways. The law should protect them so that they are able to live in dignity and respect. They should live free of abuse. These are the principles that this Bill has emphasised on. The Constitution of Kenya has built upon the National Social Protection Policy of May 2012. The Government of Kenya has been urged several times, including by Parliament, to ensure that the protection of older people is a matter of law and discipline.
