"content": "Finally, I have heard the Leader of the Majority Party commenting on taxation. The Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture has proposed a reduction of taxes from 15 to 13 per cent. I see no reason of challenging that proposed amendment. We must be careful as a country. As much as we want to collect taxes, we should not tax our people out of business. I call upon the Committee to make a comparative study – look at Tanzania, Uganda and other East African countries’ taxation regimes – so that we do not tax those people out of business. The moment we raise taxation in a comparative way more than the other East African countries, then our investors in this country shall move to other countries that have more friendly tax regimes. I call upon the Committee to critically look at it. When it comes to the Committee of the whole House, we shall propose an amendment to agree with the Committee to retain the percentage that it has thought out to be 13 per cent and maintain the provision."
