I beg to move: THAT, Clause 33 of the Bill be amended— (a) by deleting subclause (1) and substituting therefor the following new subclause— (1) Upon receipt of the declaration made under section 31, a responsible Commission shall analyse the declaration to ascertain— (a) whether the declaration raises possible issues of conflict of interest; and, (b) whether on the face of it, the declaration contains any discrepancy or inconsistency. (b) in subclause (5) by inserting the word “responsible” immediately after the word “The”; (c) in subclause (6) by deleting the word “fourteen” appearing immediately after the word “within” and substituting therefor the word “thirty” The rationale is this: We have to maintain the existing model of declarations to entities that directly supervise the conduct and ethics of the various categories of public officers and require clarification to be made within 30 days. That is self-explanatory with the proposed amendments."
