"content": "In fact, Chairman, what you are complaining about is authority already vested in you and your Committee. Standing Order 227(2) reads, “The Public Petitions Committee may recommend that a report on a Petition be considered for debate in the House”. The discretion lies with you. When you are done with the Petition, you communicate to the Petitioner and send a copy to the Clerk. You recommend to the Clerk if, in your opinion, you believe the matter is sufficiently important to be debated by the House. Then, it will find its way to the Floor for debate. The authority is vested in your Committee."
