"content": "Part of those protocols was to ensure that we keep to dropping passengers at a reasonable distance to the terminal itself. That is why you see all that area has been blocked. People are dropped a little bit far away, not very far though, if I guess maybe 50 metres away from the veranda. Also, the construction of Terminal 1A after the fire of 2014 never put into consideration the need to have a good veranda and canopy that people can be dropped properly. So, there was a design problem that happened and we acknowledge. In fact, in the report of Kenya Airport Authority (KAA), the discussion is how to remodify the existing terminals and put it on a canopy that can come way in front that will allow us to drop people at a place where there is shade. There is a more critical problem. At the main gate, people have to alight, then they are searched, then the car is searched before you go in. Three weeks ago, in chairing a meeting that is multi-agency at the airport, I instructed the people working on the port charter and KAA itself to work towards us getting scanners at the entrance that look like all the other parts of the world, that will enable us to scan vehicles and everybody without requiring anybody to alight."
