"content": "The President also talked about the fertiliser subsidy which has impacted food production costs in the country. Fertiliser prices have been reduced by up to 60 per cent. This means that the farmers can produce at a much lower cost. Currently, maize is retailing at between Ksh2,800 and Ksh3,800 in some parts of this country. Therefore, the cost of maize has been reduced. I will borrow some words from the Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning. He talked about the demand and supply curve. If these issues are not attended to and the cost reduction is not transferred to consumers, then the efforts of the government to bring down the cost of production will not have the correct impact."
