"content": "The petitioners are raising concerns about the status of forest excisions of the Mount Kenya Ontulili Forest Station Block measuring 384.1 hectares and 546.2 hectares respectively, pursuant to Legal Notice No.68 of 1975 and Legal Notice No.107 of 1977, meant for resettling the landless squatters living in Ontulili Forest village being LR No.13269 and LR No.12234. The petitioners state that the taungya system, commonly referred to as the shamba system, was developed for conservation purposes but also allowed for subsistence farming where each family was allocated one-hectare piece of land for cultivation. The petitioners’ parents worked for the Forest Department at the Ontulili Forest Reserve."
