    "content": "Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.56(1)(b) to make a Statement on the activities of the Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism for the period commencing 1st July, 2023 to 30th November, 2023. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, during the period under review, the Committee held a total of 45 meetings. During the period under review, the Committee considered the following Bills- (a) The County Licensing, (Uniform Procedure) Bill, 2022 (Senate Bills No. 9) of 2022. The County Licensing (Uniform Procedures) Bill is sponsored by Sen. Mariam Omar, MP. The Bill seeks to establish a standard uniform procedure for licensing by county governments. Status: The Committee tabled its report on 12th April, 2023. The Bill is now at the Committee of the Whole stage. (b) The Startup Bill, (Senate Bills No.14 of 2022). The Startup Bill, 2022 was read a first time on 15th February, 2023 and is sponsored by Sen. Crystal Asige, MP. It seeks to provide a framework to encourage innovation and incentives to start ups. Status: The Committee tabled its report in the Senate on 12th April, 2023. The Bill is at the Committee of the Whole. (c) The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood) Bill, (Senate Bills No.41 of 2023). The Street Vendors (Protection of livelihood) Bill, was read a First Time on Tuesday, 17th October, 2023. It is sponsored by Sen. Esther Okenyuri, MP. Status: The Bill is currently undergoing public participation at the Committee. The Committee considered the following Petitions- Petition on the fraudulent shareholding activities and illegal acquisition of East African Breweries Limited (EABL). Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, during the period under review, one Petition was reported on 30th July, 2023 by Sen. Wakili Hilary Sigei, MP, on the fraudulent shareholding activities and illegal acquisition of EABL. The Committee has engaged with the petitioner, Mr. Nicholas Rono, the Chief Executive Officer, Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK). The Committee scheduled a meeting with the Commissioner General, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) today, Thursday, 7th December, 2023, to consider the Petition."
