    "content": "Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, on county visits, during the period, on Friday, 24th and Saturday, 25th November, 2023, the Committee undertook an inspection visit to Busia and Bungoma counties, as follows- (a) Busia and Malaba One-Stop Border Posts to assess the state of cross border trade between Kenya and Uganda and further inspect the state of the One Border Posts; (b) Visit and engagements at the new Nasewa Industrial Park in Busia County, to inspect the implementation status of the county aggregated industrial park; (c) Visit to Kakapel Cultural Centre in North Teso in Busia County to assess the feasibility of the cultural shrine for the promotion of tourism and cultural heritage; (d) Met with members of the Metropolitan Teachers SACCO in Bungoma as a follow-up on the Statement that was requested by Sen. David Wakoli, MP, on the status of Metropolitan National Sacco in Bungoma County. The Committee is following up on submissions and memoranda review from the stakeholders. The Committee also undertook inspection visits of Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) warehouses on Thursday, 30th November, 2023, following a statement regarding the production and importation of cooking oil in Kenya. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, on Statements, during the period under review, the Committee considered a total of 31 per the schedule annexed herein. Ten Statements have been concluded During the period under review, the Committee undertook one international travel following invitation by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) to participate in the Trade Mission to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 5th to 11th November, 2023 in Dubai as a build up towards COP28. The Committee will prioritize the following business in the next quarter- (a) A report writing retreat on the following- (i) Petition on the fraudulent shareholding activities and illegal acquisition of East Africa Breweries Ltd (EABL) and UDV(K); and (ii) The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood) (Senate Bills No.41 of 2023); (b) An inspection visit to Embu County to engage with the affected Muguka transporters and further hold a workshop with CECMs responsible for trade in the counties of Mombasa, Nairobi, Garissa and Embu to intervene on the matter of high cess levies charged on Muguka cargo transporters. (c) Following stakeholder engagements with teachers affected by Metropolitan National Sacco, the Committee is scheduled to engage with the State Department for Cooperatives, the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on the refund of the shares and deposits and the withdrawal of the teachers from the said Sacco in Bungoma County; (d) Meet with the management of Kenya Airways (KQ), Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) on the Statement requested by Sen. Samson Cherarkey, MP, regarding the state of operations and financial status of KQ;"
