"content": "The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has a duty to contribute towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through the provision of affordable, accessible, sustainable and quality health insurance. However, it is regrettable to note that there have been numerous complaints from Kenyans regarding their dissatisfaction with NHIF services. In some cases, patients under NHIF coverage who are admitted in hospitals while unconscious are not attended to for long periods owing to the inability of NHIF to confirm the patients’ details. In addition, some patients under NHIF cover are denied direct admissions even under emergency circumstances as the cover does not provide for pre-admission diagnostics such as implants and scans and yet, some civil servants under the same cover get those services. This goes against the provisions of Article 43 of the Constitution on access to emergency medical treatment."
