"content": " Thank you, Hon. Temporary Speaker, for giving me an opportunity to contribute to this Bill. When I was growing up, we used to have cotton mills and textile industries in Kenya. In Eldoret, we had RIVATEX and Raymond while in Kisumu we had Kisumu Cotton Mills (KICOMI) among others. Cotton was grown in Bungoma, Busia and other parts of this country, and we used to produce textiles; not anymore. The other day, I read in the newspaper that Nakuru and other parts of Kenya have become a graveyard of industries. Many industries collapsed because they were being sustained by raw materials produced in our farms. Cotton and tobacco industries were among them. I believe that if we want to sustain ourselves and develop our country, we must have homegrown solutions on how to revive the industries. If you go to the villages, you will see the level of poverty because of the collapse of industries. The county governments should do something to revive them and ensure they are sustained by products from our farms. This will give our people a lot of hope and boost our economy. As a country, right now we are struggling. Our economy is solely dependent on importation of goods from countries like China, India, and our immediate neighbours, yet we used to export. We would see blankets being produced in Nakuru, Eldoret, and Kisumu.
