    "content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.53(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Health concerning inadequate bed capacity at Mbagathi County Referral and Mama Lucy Hospitals. In the Statement, the Committee should- (1) Outline the specific measures taken by the County Government of Nairobi and the Ministry of Health to address the chronic shortage of beds in hospitals, particularly in maternity wards at Mbagathi County Referral and Mama Lucy Hospital, where a significant number of mothers are compelled to share beds with as many as three or four individuals occupying a single bed. (2) Provide an assessment of the current infrastructure and resource allocation at Mbagathi County Referral and Mama Lucy Hospitals, including an analysis of the factors contributing to the inadequate bed capacity and the lack of sufficient sitting arrangements for patients while they wait to secure beds. (3) State the steps being taken to ensure the timely and effective implementation of measures to expand bed capacity, improve facilities and safeguard the health and dignity of patients, especially expectant mothers who rely on these healthcare institutions for essential care and support."
