Speaker, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 44(2)(c), I wish to request a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security regarding the delay of the Maendeleo ya Wanawake elections. Maendeleo ya Wanawake is an NGO that deals with women's rights issues and gender equity in the country. The organisation plays a critical role in advocating for the equality and empowerment of women. Maendeleo ya Wanawake's management decided to postpone this year's elections until 2028, citing challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, an election board had been constituted to oversee preparations for the next election. The Non-Governmental Organisations Co-ordination Act mandates that a non- governmental organisation operates within its framework, under the supervision of the NGO Co-ordination Board. Elections are a very important aspect of such an establishment, and they signify adherence to the basic values of democracy and good governance. Hon. Speaker"
