"content": " Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Speaker, for allowing me to support this Motion by Hon. Dorothy for providing a safety net for caregivers of persons living with severe disabilities. It is long overdue, given the fact that we have PWDs across the board, and I specifically refer to children who are under 18 years of age. We have caregivers, mainly their mothers, who go through a lot of stress and stigma amongst the stressors and people who look down upon them. Not only that, but we also have unconducive environments. Whatever food they have may not be adequate because those caregivers, who are mainly parents, spend most of their time taking care of their disabled children. Apart from their time, the resources they spend on those children are a lot. Those parents get tired and do not know what to do. I appreciate Hon. Dorothy for bringing this Motion. Along the streets and highways in Nairobi, we have seen PWDs - like the blind - with aides who move around with them, while asking for support. Sometimes, I ask myself what happens to the young men who are holding their relatives — be it their mothers or grandmothers. How will they earn a living? It is important that caregivers are considered in the cash transfer program. I also want to ask those with children or relatives who are living with disabilities in their homes to bring them out so that they are supported.
