"content": " Thank you, Hon. Temporary Speaker for allowing me to contribute to this very important Motion. I also congratulate Hon. Dorothy Ikiara for coming up with this Motion. If implemented, it will touch many lives and assist Kenyans who are currently living in desperate situations. A few days ago, I watched a clip of a young lady from somewhere in Naivasha. She said that her mum is mentally ill and her younger brother is living with disability. The young lady was at a point of losing hope and getting into depression. She expressed her frustrations because she cannot cope with family life because of the high demands from both her brother and mother, and she has no one to help her. She tried to work but she could not cope because the attention the two need from her is overwhelming. When I watched the clip, I was moved and wondered how she could be helped. The Motion that Hon. Dorothy brought to this House this morning is something that affects people in every part of this country. A lot of cases of persons living with disability need caregivers. Most of them reside in the villages. In some communities, children living with disability are like a taboo and they are viewed as a curse; nobody really wants to associate with them. They do not even want to talk about it. Some people even go ahead and hide them and for that reason they become even more depressed. Parents of such children end up living with stigma.
