    "content": "That is why we must say, without mincing words, that people must be protected; that the law must protect us and we have the freedom of expression! If you are mighty, if you are powerful and I stand up against you, you can do whatever you want, but you must not harm me. If you want to isolate me and do whatever you do, the Government must make sure that we are safe and we should not be intimidated, harassed or anything. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I say that because there are Senators here who are asking me why I am not in my county today, because everyone thought I should be in the county. However, I stand here to say that I have my rights as a Kenyan and I should not be intimidated by anybody! I will also comment on the Statement that was raised by Sen. Madzayo, the Senate Minority Leader, about environmental degradation in his county. We have quarries in Murang’a’ County and sometimes, the people who mine these building stones leave big uncovered depressions. When the rains come, they fill in these big depressions and sometimes, when children play around there or when one or two people take what the late Whispers used to call “Jeremiah Waters”, they sometimes fall into these depressions and lose their lives. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we must all in one accord agree and advise that anyone doing mining must manage these sites, especially after they leave, in order for us to continue assuring our people of their safety. We must come against pollution. When mining activities are done by these people, these miners and companies must see to it that pollution is prevented. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) must also be looked into. Let them build schools, hospitals, health centres et cetera, so that the people that live in these areas can benefit from these activities. They must benefit economically and financially because that is the right thing to happen. I support."
