Senators, just to bring you up to speed, as per the Constitution, for the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and other Supreme Court Judges, Articles 166(3)(b) gives at least 15 years’ experience as a superior court judge, or at least 15 years’ experience as a distinguished academic, judicial officer, legal practitioner or such experience in other relevant legal fields. Article 229(2) states that to be qualified to be the Auditor-General, the person shall have extensive knowledge of public finance or at least 10 years experience in auditing or public finance management. Therefore, 10 and 15 years are subjective, but still fall within the Constitution. We might as well pass the amendments as they are. If we were to amend at this point in time, we will have to have the amendments in writing. We are going to subject the amendments to a division and decide. I suggest that we proceed.
