"content": "Programme was the best thing that happened in this country. However, it only cared for mothers and children at birth. Nonetheless, what do we do with the children as they leave the hospital? That is why I intentionally specified the care of children to be from birth to 12 years. Are we able to provide insurance for mothers and children as a package? Sen. Crystal Asige raised a pregnant point. As mentally challenged mothers give birth, do we care what happens to their children after they leave the hospitals or the birth attendants? Taking into consideration that children are the property of the State, we must be intentional about reducing preventable maternal deaths. A number of colleagues have raised critical issues. I know what it means as you walk the journey towards giving birth. Some people think that giving birth is a natural process, but as natural as it is, it has medical implications. That is why sometimes you see women walking out of the hospital and some of them, of course, with happiness, but there are a number who are depressed. If you can recall, Sen. (Dr.) Khalwale during his presentation The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
