"content": "people who elected him. They elected him because they had and still have hope that he can change this country given an opportunity. Mr. Speaker, Sir, these young people are learned and know what is going on in the rest of the world. They also know that the future of this country belongs to them. We must engage in this conversation instead of running away. Parliaments sit even at times of war, but we are not having a war. This country is peaceful. Our police only need to know how to handle demonstrators. As far as I am concerned, the police should have escorted the demonstrators. They should have led them to the right streets and told them protected areas and premises they should not enter because of consequences. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do not think it is time for the Senate to go on some forced recess. We can hold meetings in other venues. It does not have to be at this venue. It is a sad day for our country. I looked at all the ladies in this house today. I realised that, just by sheer coincidence, and maybe because of what we are all feeling, each person in this House today is dressed in black and white because we are mourning children that we lost. We are mourning our young people who should not have died but today they are in morgues. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I agree with these young people. Rex and the others should not have died. There was no reason to die because they were holding peaceful picketing which we should allow. This country should know how to handle democracy better. We cannot purport to be a democratic nation but dictatorial at the same time. That is not possible. We must be accommodative to democracy. We must be accommodative to the right of say, even when the majority have their way. I strongly feel that the Senate should be allowed to engage on issues in the Finance Bill, which should come to the Floor of this House. We must represent our counties on issues that are important in that Bill. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I oppose the recess and thank you for this opportunity."
