    "content": "Madam Temporary Speaker, the Kenyan delegation to the 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference comprised over 23 Members. it was one of the largest delegations we have had led by the Rt. Hon. Moses Wetangula, the Speaker of the National Assembly, as the Leader of Delegation; the Hon. Makali Mulu, the Hon. Timothy Wanyonyi, the Hon. Beatrice Adagala, the Hon. John Paul Mwirigi, the Hon. Beatrice Elachi, the Hon. Ronald Karauri, the Hon. Patrick Simiyu, the Hon. Sahir Iyanda, and he Hon. Badi Twaleef, Bady. From the Senate, three of us including Sen. Mwinyihaji Faki, Sen. Wahome Wamatinga and myself as the leader of the delegation. The Clerks were led by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge. During the Conference, Members of the Kenyan Delegation were actively involved in the deliberations, speaking at meetings of the Commonwealth Parliamentarians and the African Regional Meeting. Our Leader of Delegation, the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the National Assembly led us very well. He emphasized the fundamental need to change the status of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association from a charitable body to an inter- parliamentary organ. He urged the Government of the United Kingdom to enact the appropriate legislation to facilitate the change of the status of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. This was a major proposal because, after many years of this Parliamentary Group, it looks like there is a need to change so that it becomes more active and also answerable to the Parliaments to ensure that the discussions in the Commonwealth relate very well to the activities of the member States. During the General Assembly, therefore, while contributing to topical debates on food security and sustainability in the Commonwealth, the Speaker also stated that food The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
