We are not saying whatsoever that the Sugar Development Levy does not play an important role in the development of the sugar industry or sugar growing in our country. The proposal to remove an element of the Sugar Development Levy from imported industrial sugar is because we do not grow this sugar. We also have to look at the consumer. We find it unfair that the consumers of soft drinks and other such items that use this sugar should be made to pay that extra amount and yet, as a nation, we do not grow that sugar-cane.
