    "content": " Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I stand to support the Petition by Prof. Atwoli on this critical issue of suicide. This House should not mix their religious beliefs and our ability to legislate justice for all our citizens. Those who are committing suicide are mostly people with mental illnesses, those who are not psychologically balanced and have problems in their own lives and feel that it is not worth living on earth. So, bringing in biblical or Quranic verses in order to oppose is out of place. I think we should decriminalise it and make sure that the patients who survive get the medical attention that they need psychologically, and any other necessary help. I heard some Member mention that we will be encouraging more people to commit suicide, but even if you took people who are not balanced and have survived suicide attempts to prison, they can still hang themselves in prison. There is no deterrent. I think we should give them the support that they need. We should protect them and make sure that they get cured so that they can enjoy living happy and wonderful lives in Kenya and in this world. Thank you, Hon. Speaker."
