"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, like the rest of the world, Sub-Saharan Africa is also feeling the impact of the global economic crisis. Current projections indicate that the growth of the Sub-Saharan African economy will most likely fall to 1.7 per cent in 2009, from 5.5 per cent in 2008. Indeed, the growth rate of the economies that are Kenyaâs major trading partners in the East African region such as Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda, is projected on average to decelerate to 5.6 per cent in 2009, from 9.4 per cent in 2008. African countries must, as a priority, take appropriate measures to contain the adverse effects of the crisis on their economies, while preserving the hard-earned gains of recent years."
