"content": "Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.53 (1) to seek a statement from the Standing Committee on Roads Transportation and Housing on the imminent eviction of civil servants from the Hobley Road Estate near Mombasa Municipal Stadium in Mombasa County. The civil servants are due to be evicted from 1st October, 2024 ostensibly to pave way for the construction of a new housing estate in the Affordable Housing Plan. Since we are alive to what happened to Buxton where to date the former tenants have not been resettled despite a resolution of this House, I will not wish to see them suffer similar fate. Besides that, the national examinations are due to start in October 2024 and the impending evictions and relocations could interfere with the performance of the students who are currently preparing for their final exams. In the statement, the committee should confirm: (1) Whether the civil servants facing eviction from the Hobley Road estate have been provided with alternative accommodation where they can relocate. (2) State if they will be considered for payment of disturbance allowance to facilitate their relocation from their present residence to their new residences. (3) Disclose the person or company that was awarded the tender for the construction of the said houses, and whether the current tenants will be given first priority to occupy the units once the construction is completed. I thank you."
