    "content": "Madam Temporary Speaker, pursuant Standing Order No.57(1), I hereby present the business of the Senate for the week commencing Tuesday, 1st October 2024, on behalf of the Senate Majority Leader. With respect to the business of the Senate, the status of legislative business is as follows: (a) Sixty (60) Bills are pending conclusion, of which 41 are at the Second Reading stage, while 18 are at the Committee of the Whole Stage. One Bill is due for First Reading and it is scheduled accordingly in today's Order Paper; (b) Twenty-Four (24) Motions are pending conclusion; (c) Twenty-One (21) Petitions are due for reporting by the respective Standing Committees; and, (d) Three Hundred and Ninety-Six (396) Statements are pending before the Standing Committees. The breakdown of petitions pending before Standing Committees is as follows: (1) Two in the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. (2) One in the Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations. (3) Two in the Committee on Education. (4) One in the Committee on Health. (5) Three in the Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights (6) One in the Committee on Labour and Social Welfare Committee. (7) Seven in the Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources. (8) Three in the Committee on Road, Transportation and Housing. (9) One in the Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism. I implore upon the aforementioned Standing Committees to expedite consideration of the petitions and to table the reports as required. Madam Temporary Speaker, on Tuesday, 1st October, 2024, the Senate Business Committee (SBC) will meet to consider the business for the week. The tentative business for that day will include business not concluded from today’s Order Paper as well as the business indicated in the Notice Paper appended to the Order Paper.
