On 28th August 2024, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Hon. He directed that within the next three months, all public institutions should remove asbestos roofing and dispose of them in line with NEMA guidelines. In the Statement, the Committee should- (1) Explain the measures the Ministry of Environment has put in place to ensure the removal of all the asbestos roofing at Gategi Girls, Gitaraka Girls and Wachoro Boys School in Mbeere South Constituency, Embu County, and provide timelines as directed by the Ministry to replace the asbestos roofing in these schools, in order to protect students from the dangers associated with asbestos such as the risk of cancer. Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir."
