Deputy Speaker, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 44(2)(c), I rise to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forest and Mining regarding Mining Activities in Macalder Gold Belt in Migori County. Hon. Deputy Speaker, the Macalder Gold Belt in Migori County is known for its richness in precious minerals such as gold and copper. The minerals are precious national resources that ought to be extracted for the benefit of the nation, the local communities and the future generations as envisaged under Article 69 of the Constitution. It is of great concern that mining activities in Macalder seem uncoordinated hence violating the rights of the residents to the benefit of the minerals."
