Senators, given the significance of the national debt in our public finance management framework, and further cognizant of the Motion passed by the Senate on 24th July, 2024, on the state of the nation, calling on the Government to take action to reduce the national debt, including undertaking an independent audit of the same by the Standing Committee on Finance and Budget, I hereby commit the Report by the National Treasury and Economic Planning on the new loans contracted by the Government of Kenya from 1st May, 2024, to 31st August, 2024, and the report on the MSMEs credit guarantee scheme performance for the period between 1st July, 2023, to 30th June, 2024, to the said Committee for consideration.
