"content": "saying that these watersheds should be gazetted so that nobody can encroach on them in future. They should be protected for the future of our children. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, this is not a matter for any of us as an individual. This is a matter for the future of Kenya. Many countries are looking at this country to see whether we are capable of making decisions or we are able to act for the good of mankind. Earlier on, I said that Lake Victoria depends on four rivers from the watershed of Kenya. If we allow destruction, as a nation, we are going to be condemned by the rest of the world. Our economy depends on tourism. Tourism is the lifeline of Kenya. Today, the water level at the Maasai Mara River is down by 40 per cent. Hippos are dying today because of exposure to sunshine. In the process, they are not able to cool their bodies. They, therefore, die as a result of the heat. The destruction of our ecological system leads to the destruction of our tourism industry. As a country, we must do something about it. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I call upon all these Members to look at these issue with blinkered eyes. Let us look at it as an issue of national interest to Kenya. Let us see how we can protect our water catchment areas for the future of this nation. I support this Motion and want to request all of us to support it so that we can protect our watersheds."
