"content": "The Nile Basin Discourse Initiative (NBDI) is very concerned about the Mau Forest water tower. The Egyptians would want to support any economic activity from where their waters come. If there is real need for any preservation of the waters and the people who are close to the water catchment areas feel that they should be supported, the NBDI is ready to do that. I am saying this, having attended a workshop in Cairo. They are concerned about the diminishing volumes of the River Nile. The Mau water towers feed the River Nile. The volume of waters of Lake Naivasha is going down. Lake Nakuru is drying up. Recently, we read that flamingos will be no more. We will be saying, \"there used to be flamingos in this area\". Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the tourist attraction along the lakes in the Rift Valley will not be there. Lake Victoria, also, will not be there. Therefore, it is very important that we look at this issue, not from a regional point of view but an international point of view. We should look at it from an economic point of view. As much as it is our heritage, it is also the heritage of our children and great grandchildren. It is time we took all initiatives and did all that is within our powers to see that the Mau water tower is protected. It should be protected now, not tomorrow. We are racing against time and time is not on our side. I beg to support."
