    "content": "they want to do. We know that regeneration of forests takes hundreds of years and, everyday, the Mau Forest is being destroyed and we are told that certain people must stay there. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, this is not the first time that the Government has removed people from the forest. People have been removed from Mt. Kenya and Mt. Elgon forests. There is nothing special about the people who are living in Mau, destroying the forest everyday. We have seen photographs and some of us even want to cry. Mau involves the livelihoods of the Kenyan people and not one community. When we attend meetings in the East Africa Community, this is one of the questions that we are asked everyday. The level of Lake Victoria has gone down and every time the Ministry of Water and Irrigation has to build new water intakes because the water intakes are left hanging because the water levels are going down."
