That is why I am so glad to hear the comments and the concern of Members of Parliament – that it is important for the future of this country to restore the water tower that has been under pressure due to excisions and illegal settlement. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I took over this Ministry one-and-half years ago, and we were prepared to go ahead with the programmes of restoring our water towers. We were actually removing people from the forest. In Mount Elgon Forest, where I come from, we have recovered 600 hectares. The same exercise had happened in Mount Kenya and the Aberdares, and there was so much hue and cry in those areas. Kenyans living around Mount Kenya, Cherengany Hills and Mount Elgon realise the importance of preserving our water towers. The problem we have in the Mau Forest was being addressed. We started addressing it by removing the people; the Prime Minister did engage six Ministers. We sat down with him and a taskforce was formed. That task force has come up with very good ideas. What I want to stress to Members of Parliament, is that the Act of 2005 brought about the participation of residents who live near the forests."
