"content": "generation. Charcoal burning is still a problem. It has been allowed in this country. There are countries in which the issue of charcoal burning has been taken as a capital offence. Those involved in cutting trees and settling in catchment areas are considered as capital offenders and their lives can be taken. I am not saying we do the same but we must move as a country, to ensure that issues of environmental degradation and climate change are put at centre stage. I think in this country we have just been talking. There is the case of Nairobi River, which is completely polluted. We have raw human and industrial waste flowing into the Indian Ocean, yet we know that it is a very important resource that God has given us. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is high time that these issues were brought to the centre stage and taken very seriously. With those few remarks, I beg to support."
