Wheat production in Kenya has been going down because AFA, which is mandated to protect local production, no longer protects local production, but supports importers. Farmers end up selling wheat for less than Ksh5,000 per bag, nearly equivalent to the cost of maize production per acreage. The cost of maize production per acreage is higher.
