Pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 44(2)(c), I rise to request a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Labour regarding the grievances by employees of Ashton Apparel (EPZ) Ltd and Mombasa Apparel (EPZ) Limited. On 26th October 2023, I raised concerns in the House regarding the unfair labour treatment of Ashton Apparel (EPZ) Ltd employees and Mombasa Apparel (EPZ) Limited. Thereafter, you directed the Departmental Committee on Labour to look into the matter. In November 2023, the Departmental Committee on Labour held consultative meetings with the EPZ workers' representatives in Parliament, where the workers' grievances were first deliberated. On Friday, 2nd February 2024, the workers' representatives held a follow-up meeting where a return-to-work formula was agreed on.
