"content": "The Mover also touched on the question of making our pension scheme elective, after you serve your first term. It is good for those of us who are serving their first term to know that they will get their gratuity at the end of five years. If you do not make it back for a second term, that is all you get and you do not benefit from a pension. As the Mover said, if you come back, you can elect to contribute the gratuity that you are paid back and continue saving for your pension, so that after your second term, you continue to benefit from pension. This gratuity is very enticing. However, those who have left this House will tell you that within a few months, the money is over because you choose to continue living the way you were living as a Member of Parliament."
