The senior staff who have been placed on compulsory leave include the Director of Finance, CPA Stephen Kimeli, the Director of Procurement, Mr Dickson Lugonzo, the Director of Human Resources Ms Jane Gatune, the Registrar of Administration, Mr Benard Njuguna and the Director of Facilities Mr Andrew Mbuku. The use of compulsory leave as a punitive measure for the perceived association of the senior staff members to the former Vice- Chancellor undermines the integrity of fair labour practices contrary to the principles of fair administrative action as enshrined in the Constitution, the Employment Act (Cap. 226) and the Universities Act (Cap. 210). Furthermore, it exposes the internal wrangles at the University, thus casting doubt on the governance and operational stability of the esteemed institution as depicted in the recent ranking, where it dropped for the first time to second place in the country.
