"content": "It is, therefore, important that, as we live in this country, we must appreciate the diverse culture of the people of Kenya. I am a Samia, and the Samia people stride both Kenya and Uganda. We were simply separated by the colonial boundaries. So, if you tell a Samia person to espouse the national culture of Kenya, what about the cultural integration that we have with our community, with our brothers and sisters, and our cousins across the border? The same applies to the Somali community. If you tell them they must now discard the Somali culture and espouse the national culture, what happens to the Somalis in Somalia, Somalis in Djibouti, and Somalis everywhere? The same applies to my neighbours, the Tesos, and the Maasais. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
