    "content": "(Hon. (Dr.) Deborah Barasa): Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. First, I need to highlight that they are not interns. They are employed on a contract, which has been extended. There are 9,918 healthcare professionals in16 different cadres who were recruited on a three-year contract in May, 2020 under the Universal Health Care (UHC). They were deployed across all counties and national Government health facilities where they were remunerated at a consolidated pay of Kshs50,000 and Kshs40,000 per month for diploma and certificate holders respectively. Upon the expiry of their contracts twice, in May, 2023 and May, 2024, renewals were effected, culminating in the latest one that will come to a close in May,2026 to allow time for the finalisation of their absorption into permanent and pensionable terms to the counties where they work."
