Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, food prices in this country are very high. So, the Government needs to come in and regulate the prices of food. We cannot leave the function of determining food prices to business people alone because, as we know, business people are driven by the profit motive. Currently, maize millers make between 104 per cent and 220 per cent profit. So, we need the Government to come in and regulate profit levels to between 15 per cent and 20 per cent. I would like to thank my fellow Members of the Committee for agreeing that people dealing with food should make a maximum profit of 18 per cent profit, because food is mandatory to life. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the other issue is that of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). There is not enough research that has been conducted to support continued use of GMOs. We need a lot of research and tests to be conducted in this area, so that we can feed our people, who are ignorant about GMOs. Actually, “genetically modified” means “genetically mutated”. It also means “genetically engineered” or “genetically manipulated”. It is a gene that is usually taken from one species and put into another species. I wonder---"
