"content": "Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I saw my friend, the Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Lands and Natural Resources revisiting a subject that he loves, that is, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). I remember that during the debate on The Biosafety Bill, he talked just as he has done today. I do not want to agree with him. In Spain, Brazil and India farmers have taken on the technology of today. They are planting Genetically Modified (GM) crops, and by so doing they have increased their production. Spain has been doing it for 25 years. Brazil has been doing it now for quite a long time. Of course, India has more than 10 million large-scale and small-scale farmers growing GM crops, and they have increased the amount of food in that country. The Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Lands and Natural Resources knows who is growing GM crops and who is not, because he is very well informed. What I do not want to agree with him on is on his rhetoric about the scientific and medical aspects of GM food. In Spain and other countries, people have been eating GM food all these years, but medical experts have never come out with adverse effects of eating it."
